I just found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Cobalt
And it looks rather interesting.

I'm playing with it now, and, while I haven't done too much with it yet, it looks to be pretty awesome.

Well, I have an idea. I script my own games. For proof see my website. I could make something like Metaplace. But not all 3D-ish. Try some of my games. And post or PM if I should or shouldn't

I was taken by surprise when I heard that Metaplace was closing. It was a promising, if ambitious project that had a lot of potential. Its closure is definitely going to have an impact on any alternates that are in the general realm of UGC or even game creation. Several similar services are also having a difficult time gaining traction, and it's a common theme that is sure to be investigated more and one that we as well as any others who are in this field are sure to learn from.

We've actually been working specifically on the game creation problem for quite some time and came up with similar ideas to Metaplace, namely the premises of providing an open marketplace for sharing and remixing any kind of game asset (including mixing together modules/game systems together), allowing developers to monetize their creations using a virtual currency, a free toolset and you get the idea.

If there are any users out there who were using Metaplace for the 2D game creation aspect (rather than the virtual worlds part), I encourage you to hop on over to http://www.stencyl.com and sign up for our mailing list. Like Metaplace, we trickle in new users constantly and are ramping up much like Metaplace did starting last year.

Mention in the open field that you've worked with Metaplace and describe some of the worlds you created, and I'll be sure to take note. I will preface this by saying that isometric is a high priority for us but isn't supported today - but if you're interested in the 2D tile-based or otherwise Flash-like games, this is definitely something you'd probably be interested in.

If it makes anyone feel better, we can sign-up as a group for Habo Hotel, and just stand around talking in complete sentences to make all the tweens think they have been invaded by grown-ups.

I asked the same question in a different forum. Yez said possibly.

It looks like we have several options to look at and various considerations such as age limits and personal computer limitations. In the meantime, we need some place to chat. Some place with low graphic needs and includes all ages. Perhaps a kid place, as long as we can make a room and gather.

Ok, two rooms...one for the daters.
